Home \ Streamlining Recruitment with Serverless Workflows
Flex Hive is an on-demand talent platform developed by Hudson, a leading recruitment agency in Australia. It specialises in providing contingent workers in customer service, support, and administration roles across Australia and New Zealand. It offers businesses quick and efficient access to a pool of qualified and experienced professionals to meet temporary staffing needs.
Flex Hive sought to shift from a traditional recruitment model to a more agile approach aimed at supporting a wider range of placement needs for employers. This transformation was driven by the desire to enhance operational efficiency, reduce high maintenance costs, and elevate the overall user experience. Flex Hive wanted a minimal-touch workforce pool that had already undergone an approval process, streamlining recruitment efforts for both employers and candidates.
Intelligent Pathways collaborated with Flex Hive to develop a configurable workflow that facilitated the creation of tailored candidate vetting processes based on specific job roles. This solution addressed the need for a streamlined recruitment process that could efficiently match candidates with employers’ needs, send candidates to role-specific tests and update their profiles with test results. The implementation involved designing a serverless workflow using AWS technologies such as Step Functions, Lambda functions, and SQS. This approach allowed for the orchestration of processes with multiple steps and conditions, accommodating different pools for various candidate flows. The solution incorporated a custom workflow-as-code approach, enabling the design of workflows that could be easily modified and adapted to changing requirements. This flexibility was crucial in ensuring that the system could evolve alongside Flex Hive’s recruitment needs.
Hudson’s integration platform supported the efficient delivery of Flex Hive. Driving cost efficiency was paramount, leading to a focus on architecture, particularly the adoption of serverless architecture to replace the outdated WSO2 system.
The architecture overhaul of Flex Hive led to a reduction in integration operating expenditure on a per candidate basis, in the order of 75%, marking a significant cost-saving achievement. This transformation not only enhanced the digital experience for candidates and employers but also modernised the recruitment process, making it more efficient and user-friendly. Furthermore, the transition to serverless technologies has empowered the organisation with a familiar and agile framework. This has reduced the learning curve for team members, enabling them to swiftly implement updates and improvements to the system. Flex Hive’s strategic shift from traditional recruitment methods to a dynamic, technology-driven approach has positioned the organisation as a leader in the industry, capable of meeting the evolving needs of its clients and candidates.
