Insights

Director of Technology Consulting | Brisbane

This month, we had the privilege to sit down with Nirdesh, our Director of Technology Consulting, whose passion for problem-solving and innovative solutions has been instrumental in guiding our clients through their digital transformation journeys. With over two decades of experience, Nirdesh leads a team of talented solution architects and senior consultants, tackling challenges in data, integration, and AI. In this Q&A, Nirdesh shares his thoughts on the evolving tech space, the balance between work and personal life, and his dedication to both professional and personal growth.

Can you describe your role as the Director of Technology Consulting and what a typical day might look like for you?

My role is multifaceted and involves a broad range of responsibilities, but at its core, it’s about solving complex digital transformation challenges or opportunities for our clients, particularly in data, integration and AI.

I am supported by very talented people. We have an incredible group of solution architects and senior consultants who work together to address these challenges from the very inception of an idea to its successful delivery. Every day brings new challenges, which makes the work exciting and dynamic.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

The most enjoyable is also the most challenging aspect – solving new and complex problems. The technology ecosystem and business challenges we face are constantly evolving, especially over the last five to six years. On a personal level I thrive on these challenges, pushing myself and my team to continuously learn and adapt. It’s not just about using the latest technology but about finding innovative solutions to real business problems. It’s my passion.

Is there something specific in the technology space that excites you at the moment, perhaps something that you might want to learn more about?

I don’t look at technology as a ‘tool’, but rather an enabler to solve complex or new business problems. Right now, data and AI are at the forefront of these solutions. But it’s the value we deliver to our clients through these technologies that truly excites me. Over the last 20 years I’ve witnessed each era of technology present new opportunities to innovate, and I’m eager to see where these new advancements take us.

What’s one of your proudest achievements outside of your career?

I’m proud of how I’ve balanced a demanding career with a fulfilling personal life. I’m fortunate to have a supportive family—my wife, two children, and my extended network of friends and family. They’ve all played a role in helping me manage both work and personal commitments successfully. It’s not a single achievement but a collective satisfaction.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

I have a few hobbies that keep me busy. I really enjoy DIY projects, whether it’s around the home and garden or offering DIY advice to others. Cooking is another hobby of mine, it’s rewarding when my children enjoy the meals I prepare. I also try to give back to the community when I can. I’m active in the Indian cultural community, volunteering to teach children about our language and heritage, and I also serve on the foundation board at my son’s school.

Personal well-being is important to me, so I practise spirituality and meditation when I can, though my routine isn’t perfect. I love spending time outdoors with my kids, whether we’re on a walk, at the park, or attending their sports events. Our family is always doing something!

Speaking of spirituality, recently you went on a multiple day meditation and yoga program. Can you tell me more about what that experience was like for you?

Yes, last month I attended a four-day intensive meditation program in a peaceful country town in Victoria, free from digital distractions. The experience was intense, and a strong reminder to focus on what truly matters in life. It didn’t change my life overnight, but it reinforced the importance of living with intention. Like everyone, some days I still face challenges however experiences like this encourage me to be more inclined to take initiative and solve problems head on. Besides that, the digital detoxification was amazing.

Was it challenging, being without your devices for four days?

No, not hard at all!  It’s something I’d recommend to anyone. We often think we can’t survive without our devices, but it’s surprisingly easy to disconnect and rediscover a simpler way of living.
